Scripture Union Daily Guide 17th April 2026 Outline

Read Jeremiah 43:1-7 again and compare with Jeremiah 42:5-6. What does this tell us about the context of Jeremiah’s ministry? Like the proverbial dog that does not hear the hunter’s whistle because it is destined to get lost, the people of Judah blatantly refuse to obey the message from God. What was the cause of their disobedience (Jeremiah 43:2)? In what ways do we behave like them?

Interestingly, they forcefully carried Jeremiah along to Egypt (Jeremiah 43:6). Why do you think they did so? Could it be they intended to use him in future to help them consult God again? Like the people of Judah, many go about with their Bible even when they are not ready to read or obey its content. Even in Egypt, God’s word came to Jeremiah (Jeremiah 43:8-13).

God’s word can find us anywhere. His word is not confined to any particular place. We can never hide from God. God was not only going to deal with His rebellious people, but even their host nation would have a taste of His judgement (Jeremiah 43:12-13). We should be careful who and where we run to for help in the prevailing situation of our world.

Food for Thought
Jesus is the Rock in the weary land, a Shelter from the raging storm. It’s only in Him that we can find true security.
